Workouts For Teens

Many teens make the mistake of thinking that they do not have to have some set workout routine simply because they are young and in good shape overall.

The thing is though, everyone should have a workout routine, even if it is to simply maintain the good health that they are experiencing at the moment.

As a teen, your goal probably is not to become the next ultimate body builder but you do want to make sure that you are staying active and physically fit.

Teens and Exercise - Why You Need Them

One thing that many teens have to watch for, especially at the onset of puberty, is weight gain. A steady workout routine can offset that problem. Also, a teen that is in shape is more likely to have a positive body image and therefore will have more self-confidence which everyone knows is super important for teens.

Gym or Home - How to Make the Choice

With all of the commercials and television advertisements, it is no wonder that so many people assume that in order to get a good workout, they have to pay for a high priced gym membership.

A gym membership is not needed but it could come in handy depending on your home situation. If there are many distractions at home or very little space - you could always head to the park for a job.

Then again, not everyone lives in an area where there are places to safely exercise outdoors. If this is the case for you, then the gym is perfect. For those who want to also have a little socialization time as well as a great workout, the gym is a great place for that as well.

As a teen, you might not find yourself with a lot of money. Therefore, working out at home can save you a lot of money.

Selecting to workout at home or at the gym is a personal choice and one that you will have to decide on yourself. There are benefits and negatives to each.

You will simply have to weigh out all of your choices and go from there. Either way, as long as you are committing to a workout, it does not matter where you are, you will get in shape in no time at all.

If your goal is to gain strength, you will want to follow a strict workout routine and you want to make sure that you are working out three times a week.

Refrain from working out too many days a week because your growing body needs time to rest.

Dips - 6-8 reps

Bench Press - 8-10 reps

Row - 10-12 reps

Lying Barbell Extension - 8-10 reps

Leg Curl - 10 reps

Military Press - 8-10 reps

Squat - 6-8 reps

Barbell Shrugs - 12-15 reps

Dumbbell Curl - 12 for each arm

Wrist Curl - 15-20 reps

Teen Workout to Lose Weight in the Gym

As a teen, it is important to make sure that you are always maintaining a healthy weight.

With that said, there will be cases where some weight loss could be beneficial, as long as the goal is not to be a size zero. There are many good workouts that you could take part in within the gym, but here is an example of one to get you started:

Cardio Workout. Select the machine of your choice. It could be the cross-trainer, the treadmill or the stationary bike. Start off at a slow speed in order to allow your muscles to warm up.

After about five minutes, you will want to pick up the pace. Run or pedal for as fast as you possibly can until you are forced to slow down a bit.

When you have to slow it down, stick at that pace for the same amount of time you spent at the faster speed. Continue this process for about thirty minutes, three times a week and you will notice the pounds drop off in no time at all.

Teen Workout to Get Strong At Home

As mentioned before, there are plenty of ways to get a good workout at home. Whether you are trying to avoid the gym completely or you just want a change of scenery, try this workout in order to gain a little more muscle strength:

Legs and Buttocks - For these, you will want to work on some squats. Keep your feet roughly 13 - 17 inches from each other and always keep your back straight.

Now, all you have to do is squat to where your thighs are completely parallel to your floor, hold that stance for a moment and then in a swift, non-bouncy, movement, stand back up. Make sure that you are exhaling as you return to a standing position.

Arms, Shoulders and Chest - For these areas, try some push-ups. Keep your hands at the same width as your shoulders and try to keep the palms facing inward slightly. Push your upper body straight up until you find that your arms are straight, lower yourself back down and repeat.

Teen Workout to Lose Weight at Home

The best teen workout to lose weight in the gym is going to be cardio. If you happen to have a cardio machine at home then you will want to focus on using that.

For those who are without home exercise equipment, running in place and other cardio workouts will work just as well.

Make sure that you are keeping your workout to a short thirty minutes and that you are working out at least two times a week but no more than three times a week.

As you can see, there are many ways to get into shape as a teen, whether you are stuck at home or hanging out at the gym.
